Born 1966 in Klagenfurt, Austria

Education and degrees

M.Sc. (Magister) in Biology/Ecology, University of Vienna (1993)

Professional experience

2003-2006 Chairman of EAAWA-Austria (EAAWA: East African – Austrian Water Association)

2000-2003 Member of the Executive-Board of the Austrian “Foreign Student Coordination Committee” (KKS).

1998-present IPGL-Coordinator, Austrian Academy of Sciences, Mondsee. Austrian coordinator of the international M.Sc. programme in Limnology & Wetland Ecosystems (Austria, The Netherlands, Czech Republic, Uganda, Kenya & Tanzania).

1999- present Lecturer, University of Vienna.

1994-1998 assistant lecturer, University of Vienna.

1990-present Involvement in various research projects (Austrian Research Council, European Union, Austrian Nationalbank, Danube River Authority, WWF, Vienna Municipality, etc.)

1994-1996 University Research Scientist, Dept. for Limnology, University of Vienna.

1993-1994 Research fellowship by the Austrian Research Council, Dept. for Limnology, University of Vienna.

Teaching experience

Field and laboratory courses, lectures and seminars in Limnology, Fish-Ecology and Floodplain-Ecology within the M.Sc. programme in Limnology & Wetland Ecosystems.

Teaching at the University of Vienna: Lecture & Seminar: Ecology of Developing Countries

Supervision of 5 M.Sc. students.

Coordination of the International Post-Graduate Training Course in Limnology (IPGL) and Austrian coordinator of the international M.Sc. programme in Limnology & Wetland Ecosystems.

Research interests

My personal research interests are related towards limnology, fish-ecology and aquaculture in tropical inland waters. Main aim of IPGL is to stimulate freshwater ecosystem research in developing countries via joint research projects and international networking. Thus, coordination of research activities is another task within my duties as IPGL coordinator. More information about IPGL is available at: www.ipgl.at

Current projects

IPGL-International Post-Graduate Training Programmes in Limnology. Funded by the Austrian Development Cooperation via ADA (Austrian Development Cooperation), EZA 612-00. Project manager, Gerold Winkler.

Recently finished:

Integrating BOMOSA cage fish farming system in reservoirs, ponds and temporary water bodies in Estern Africa.  More information is available at: www.bomosa.org
